What is a Gravatar?

What is a Gravatar? Sounds almost like someone fighting off gravity in a gladiator arena. But it's not.

Do you have a gravatar? Well to find out if you have one first let’s find out what it is. Gravatar is not a "Greek word" but it is a "Geek word".

An "avatar" is an image that represents you online—a little picture that appears next to your name when you interact with websites.

A Gravatar is a Globally Recognized Avatar. You upload it and create your profile just once, and then when you participate in any Gravatar-enabled site, your Gravatar image will automatically follow you there.

It can be a way to brand you and your business.

Getting your own personal gravatar is easy

Simply go to Go to https://en.gravatar.com/  and use your main email address to sign up.

Upload an image of either a head shot of yourself or your logo. If you want to keep your brand consistent, use the same image you have used on your Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+ and Twitter.

Next time you blog and comment with the email you used to register, you will see your image next to your comment.

If you have different email addresses and want to have a different image associated with each one, you can do that as well. Simply manage the various images and email addresses through your basic Gravatar account.
